I cannot get Atmel Studio to communicate with the board though. After doing some research I believe there is a firmware upgrade required but the latest Atmel Studio does not come with the AVR Tools. How can I upgrade the firmware on the STK500 if I am using Atmel Studio 7?Note that I only have a USB - RS232 interface and I know that the firmware upgrade doco (should I get that far) says you should have a dedicated RS232 port; but no machine I have seen in the last five years has one of those puppies.:-) The prologic USB-Serial driver is installed and operating on COM3.
